Wishing Well Cottage

Renovation Timberwork Shrewsbury Kitchens Joinery Shrewsbury Restoration Renovation Period

Wishing Well Cottage is a former railway cottage set in a small hamlet in Cheshire. The cottage had not been changed since being built, but unfortunately was in a dire structural state.

The building had been constructed on a sand bank and was below ground level at the rear up to first floor level. Damp and moisture had completely permeated the structure leading to massive fungal rot and parasite infestation. The building had to be completely gutted from floor to roof. All the existing timber had to be destroyed.

A decision was made to re-work the cottage extensively while attempting to retain an authentic period feel.

Lowering the surrounding ground level and creating a path around the building allowed better access and room for a small extension. Lower ground levels allowed the building to dry thoroughly. Using re-claimed materials throughout the rebuild, the cottage has been transformed, yet few would know.

Since the rebuild the current owner has completely replanted a true English cottage garden; the property is now a true jewel in the Cheshire countryside.
